  1. There is no "natural function of marriage". Marriage is a societal construct, an agreement not a natural phenomenon like the human body. So to say procreation is a natural function of marriage makes absolutely no sense. Society agrees on what is a function of marriage not biology. You could say that procreation is a natural function of a heterosexual sexual relationship and that would be more accurate.

  2. You could say the same thing about many many things, it's the rule of averages.
How does it harm you if an immigrant comes into the country and get access to education and gets a better chance at life.
How does it harm you that people go and pray at a mosque or kids are taught about it in school.
How does it harm you that hip hop is played on the radio, you can shut it off.
How does legalizing some drugs harm you, you don't have to smoke it.
How does it harm you that gay people get married.

Well, in each of these cases there's not a problem when an isolated individual does it. But what happens when millions start doing it, what are negative things that comes with that, on average negative things. Is the average rate of crime for example increasing if you import in millions of immigrants that struggle to compete with the natives or don't care about the cultural standards of the natives. Averages is something the AVERAGE person, pun not intended don't grasp. Joe Rogan included. Just smoke the pot man, let people do whatever they want as long as they're not violent. That's a recipe for degradation of everything and as the guest correctly points out, you're already seeing it with marriage. A ripple effect, butterfly effect.

That's why very high standards is important, even if people can't live up to them.
    Historically linked to some religions.
