Because to transcend means one has to be disciplined. It means to become the best version of one’s self. To eschew lusts, urges, basic desires and so on. So that the ego is not allowed, then, to run amok as it wants to because the person who reaches that higher plane is not concerned with “self”, but rather, with service to others!
