One of the problems with AI is that we need to be careful how we program it. We could program the AI to not harm humans and to keep them "safe". The AI could evolve and decide that the best way to keep humans "safe" is by confining them into individual cages or jails where they can't harm or be harmed by other humans. If we program the AI to "Save the Earth" it could decide that the best way to do this is by exterminating humans from Earth since we cause the most amount of pollution and destruction to Earth.
