  1. OF THE TREE of the knoledge of good and evil you shall not eat (OF IT.) One word had been added to the end of the command–m'mena. It could mean by hand, with the hand, or by the measure of a hand. And then there is a later word manna. We are told it was understood to mean "what is it?" I believe this is a response to Eve having misunderstood. If I could see and hear Eve's error, surely she would have questioned the redundant translation "of it." Surely Adam could have explained. But they seem to have been bedazzled by the idea of becoming like God? Or perhaps they wanted to know for themselves what to avoid so as not to be always under authority. We see the Rabbis inserting this sentence in the passage concerning the passover lamb. The suggestion is that neither the lamb nor the tree was to be partly eaten. And neither one was to be broken in parts to be shared among households. The bones of the lamb could not be broken. There were to be in every house a group large enough to eat an entire lamb. Of manna, it was said to gather a day's supply and to eat it all. I think that we might consider our Bible a reference book for what is good and what is evil. If we have a holy spirit-inspired teacher, it makes sense to share our learning of a day's portion. Each day, day-by-day. And yet we have been given a Spirit by the grace of Jesus. "But i tell you a truth. If i do not go, i cannot send unto you the helper…" the advocate, the spirit of truth. On the way of life we first encounter the spirit of Jesus Christ. Then we are offered the spirit of the Father in "thy will be done." And if we continue on, we encounter another challenge–"Be ye holy for I am holy." And yet, these three are the one God who we come to know from grace to grace and glory to glory. In one Holy Bible. We cannot take a piece out or focus on only one piece. Our God is one. His word is one.
