Pool tournaments are cool, but the unofficial gambling side of the game is trash. Joe tried to glamorize it, but there's nothing special about it. It leads to an unhealthy lifestyle which really takes it's toll on you, & if you retire from it, you have to start your life all over again, because there's no 2nd option when it comes to a career. Not surprised so many end up killing themselves in the end. Three of my associates ended up the same way.
If you want to gamble, make sure you have a secure job, & play in your spare time. That's the best way to go about it.
I took some lessons from Wade Crane in the late 80's when he was in Knoxville, TN and playing at Comer's. When Wade was sober and focused on pool he was basically unbeatable. I've never seen a better player live. When preparing for a one pocket tournament I watched Wade spot great players 6 balls and he would destroy them. He showed me what was possible in pool.
BTW it is Dennis orcollo in the photo
