Obviously I would prefer no government monitoring me, but I think I would much sooner have an American company/government take my information than Communist China. That said I agree all the game apps we download that are from China are probably doing the same as TikTok.
This social media thing basically got into the point that you need to choose whether you believe more government of China or government of USA. Of course, you can choose to quit social media, however sometimes you want to see what's up on social media and be a member of this society since people chose this as a major communication, entertainment and even dating platform. I don't know how about you but I still believe more US Government (although it has major flaws, still better than Communists party of China with its social score system). That being said, still try to minimize the use of social media as possible.
Government powers need to be restricted. My belief is government doesn't have an arrangement with TikTok (or insiders) to control censorship like they do for all other major social media platforms.
