We collectively called it the "Golden Rule" yet not many of us follow it. I wouldn't want people to use authoritarian violence or threat of violence to force me to comply with their preferences and opinions so i don't vote. I guess most people don't mind being hypocrites.

Freedom, stability, equality are all mutually exclusive to each other. If you want more freedom you will have less stability and equality same as true if you want more stability you will have less freedom and equality and if you want more equality then you will have less stability and freedom. There's a bunch of different balances between the three that you can get but you can never get all of them in good measure. For example you could have a free and stable society but it will not be at all equitable.
