You didn't go far enough about Odin and his missing eye. He did indeed trade his eye for Mimir's wisdom and knowledge. Sure enough but "only" about the topic of women. How fun is that. Ha ha!
Funny enough Lee and Kirby weren't the first people to write about a blond Thor. That honor goes to the Prose Edda's Prologue, from circa de 11th to the 12th centuries. In it Thor, called Tror, was a Trojan prince, later Thracian king, who was described as being of a fair complexion, flaxan haired, and strong at age ten to lift ten or twelve cow hides. Mind you that Thor was from an attempt to literally humanize the character. The prologue was an explanation given as to how the Norse gods were initially great humans of old who had been deified by the Scandinavians, a precursor to modern knowledge on human migrations. At least the prologue got right that Æsar were most likely a word of eastern origin.
