The beginnings of yoga lie in shamanism, way older than Hinduism.
Joe Rogen talked to Sadhguru, who is one of these beings. But they did not go into yoga much. I wish they do another podcast about all these
Swami Rama’s guru was Bengali Baba. Bengali Baba adopted Swami Rama at 5 years of age. Bengali Baba had an agreement with Swami Rama’s birth parents to surrender their child, Swami Rama, well prior to Swami Rama’s birth. The parents were elderly, and not destined to have children. Bengali Baba did the birth father a great favor, and he was willing to surrender the child, as was the mother. But, the mother raised Swami Rami until 5 years old so Swami Rama would learn mother’s love. Bengali Baba was Swami Rama’s main guru from the lineage of Shankara. But, Bengali Baba ordered Swami Rama to travel the length and breadth of the Himalayas to learn obscure practices from masters of every discipline. One notable great Master was Neem Karoli Baba, and even the fierce Aghori tradition, along with Swami Sivananda, Ramana Maharishi, and so many rare unheard of Masters from ancient Himalayan Traditions.
Swami Rama in the 1970’s exhibited extraordinary control of the autonomic functions of the body under scientific conditions at the Menninger Foundation in Topeka, Kansas.
