@1:36 I don't trust Rabbi Gamaliel's testimony or should I say his interpretation of "Joseph" and "Mary". He was the chief Rabbi at the time and had a bias. Joseph left into Eygpt according to the gospel of Matthew 2:13-15
The Flight into Egypt
13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”
14 When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt, 15 and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”
(The Word of God can not lie nor deceive. So this is the true account and motive in Joseph's heart not a selfish motive but an obedient and protective motive for Jesus and Mary. I don't believe he fell asleep when Jesus was born either missing all the angels and shepherds. There is another most amazing account of Jesus's birth written by Catherine Emmerich a prophet of the Church, details which blow the mind and heart.)
So for the character assessment given by Rabbi Gamaliel thinking Joseph did this for "selfish" reasons is wrong. For him to say Joseph was very jealous. Joseph was chosen by The Father Creator to be the protector of the holy family. The jealousy Gamaliel felt could easily be a gift put into Joseph's heart by The Holy Spirit to protect Jesus and Mary. For our God is said to be a very jealous God, but not in a negative way. St Joseph having the gift of discernment may have not liked anyone; including relatives or rabbis asking questions about Jesus, because he knew from The Holy Spirit that men wanted to kill our Lord. Or we're asking questions out of curiosity rather than trying to praise God. Also for the rabbi to think Our Lady Mary didn't know should read Gospel of Luke chapters 1 and 2. Her pray said while full of the Holy Spirit speaks volumes of what she knew. St Elizabeth also filled with The Holy Spirit knew the fruit of Mary's Womb was Our Lord and God. So the Rabbi testimony is at best his own opinion.
IMO: the whole holy family has been misunderstood by many throughout history but many saints have had visions and messages from heaven concerning the early life of Jesus. Joseph had to be a very holy man because our heavenly Father chose him for a very important role in the life of Jesus and of Mary. God would choose the best hearts and souls for the role. The one who will do His Will. I can tell why this account although kept by the Church wasn't promoted. Some people could take this as truth with a capital "T" and come up with assumptions against or misjudgments on the character of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus.

Based on the artwork of the middle ages, if they knew anything at all, Jesus had red hair and brilliant eyes. IDK on account of i wasn't there, but it's interesting to consider.
