I find it interesting that you say that Joseph Smith "manufactured" this concept of baptism for the dead. Yet you, "manufacture" punctuation that doesn't exist to fit your narrative.
Here's another way to phrase it- Joseph Smith interpreted this verse to mean something so that it could give hope and opportunity to others, and back up his doctrinal belief.
You are interpreting this verse to mean something so that it can backup your doctrinal belief and give hope to people who believe as you do.
I think we should just appreciate a beautiful teaching of another faith without tearing down that faith, even if we don't agree.
As a side note, you know how much grief I get from my Christian friends because I believe that translations of the Bible lead to a great deal of confusion and misunderstandings? Thank you for allowing an opportunity to discuss this fact.

Why you just did was destroy any hope for sinners who don’t necessarily believe in Jesus Christ or not sure that he exists , you essentially told them you can’t be helped and those who have died before they could’ve been helped and our they lost? Does that sound like a just God? what about those who never had an opportunity to hear the gospel or enough time to fully embrace it before they could be baptized, are they lost? is that what Jesus Christ died for? No , he didn’t ,!and now people understand how wrong you are, Jesus died for all of us as a proxy for our sins and yet he would not allow anyone else out of love or law to help those who couldn’t help themselves? Are you still so confident I doubt. And you were strict the God of the universe the only saving people one way when we know and you should that he would do everything in his power and give them every opportunity since there are many mansions in heaven and different levels of heaven some who have died and sins will not attain that highest level yet they were the worst of the worst they were sinners not murderers necessarily and yet they still could be saved by excepting the gospel that they never heard about in the flesh adjust God Who loves the world and gave his only begotten son has many ways to save his sheep.
I was told by the holy spirit that this is a Heavenly ordinance which can be performed on Earth. Sir, I did not believe but now I know. I just don't know where to performe it and how.
