My wife left a stable home and 2 young children for a violent alcoholic. I believe that it's just a matter of lack of character. The good genes theory sounds like men trying to think of why a woman would have an affair if she was a man. She's not getting something she needs at home, and it's likely outside of the bedroom. How well do they communicate? Is there still romance between the pair? Has some form of resentment built up? It's the opposite of a guy's issues, which tend to be when did they last have sex, does she still shower and save her legs, and did she get fat and dumpy?
Men are the ones who screen for genetics. That's why appearance is so important in the matin game for women. Women screen for stability, that's why you hear all the talk about hypergamy.
