  1. It has nothing to do with it because everyone else has it. You can't escape it. In architecture people make libraries. Places where people can isolate. You have bars where people can drink and socialize. You have other meeting places where people are supposed to meet and talk. But then you also see places designed to isolate. A library in a house was a common things. Coves in houses and nook were designed for people to sit and read books. Most people in their house before computers would have a homework area where they would have to sit by themselves doing homework. That isolation place for work has been eliminated and they make it a mental illness if you do isolate. No one is busy anymore. They're antisocial.

People have desks and crap specifically designed to isolate and study. People could have made the world an open space like a homeless shelter where everyone is one room exposed to each other. Social media isn't technology. it's a design or an application of it. It's just like how someone chooses to arrange partitions in architecture.

It's not about discipline. It's like the traffic on the roads. Someone designed the road and the housing and that creates the traffic, and you're stuck in it. The social media traffic doesn't stop when you're not looking.

  2. Another thing that makes people upset while mindlessly scrolling is the inconsistency/ consistency of the content. Some hunting, sports, games or food. Just enough of everything to keep you unfocused but not enough of one thing to make you leave the scrolling.
