The Catholic Church persecuted Galileo for opposing the geocentric (earth-at-the-center) view of the solar system. The heliocentric (sun is the center of the planetary system) view. Galileo proved that the Church rejected true astronomical science. Today "science" is really "pseudo-science" like the Church and allows no other theory/interpretation. I don't know much about "flat earth" and gravitate toward the spherical earth and planets, but being open-minded might lead to surprises!
