Talking about devices literally listening / watching with mics and cameras is misleading to average people. Thats not the most useful data. The useful data is just knowing where the phone is at all times. To the extent they know whether you’re sitting or standing or driving, or taking a shit based on the orientation of your phone, etc. at the very least on android if not on iOS as well.
The central problem with smartphones today isn’t that you can’t see what they’re doing. It’s that you don’t have a choice but to use them in more and more cases.
Want to charge an electric car? Need an app. Want to use your health insurance/FSA? Need an app. Want to get into more and more hotels/airbnbs, need an app. etc, etc etc.
