I always thought the 144,000 were flesh and blood because I thought they were sealed for protection against Apollyon. But your rationale makes sense, too. It might be that when Jesus returns that the only ones with Him on Zion are the sealed 144,000 souls and then in the wilderness with the "woman" of Rev 12:14 (still in the flesh). The rest of the martyrs would then be reaped after the others have walked to Zion, Isa 35:8-10….And that would be why the "multitude that no one can count"/ALL the martyrs, would also be what Ezra saw….
because Rev 20:4-6 says ALL the beheaded including Christians are there when the thrones to judge the nations are set up.
When it says the 144,000 follow Jesus wherever He goes, it's literal. After the trib (Rev 13 & the 5th Seal), Jesus is returning at the beginning of Rev 14 & the 6th Seal). That's when He seals the 144,000 in Rev 7. And they're standing on My. Zion. When Jesus returns, HE STAYS. And He's with His people in the wilderness, Psalm 23, Micah 7:14, and Rev 17:14 until Armageddon/the 6th Bowl and then all the people (the 144,000 & the "woman" of Rev 12:14) walk to Zion, Isa 35:8-10, where the thrones for the judgment of the nations are set up, Joel 3:12, Matt 25:31, and Rev 20:4.
