It's sad that the part that the African people in the bowels of the slave ship played a big role in John Newton's story of how Amazing Grace came to be is left out. The tune of Amazing Grace was hummed ceaselessly, day and night never ending humming billowing out from the depths of the souls in the belly of that slave ship on an entire journey from Africa to America. If you listen to just the tune of Amazing Grace hummed with nothing accompanying it you can't help from feel the sound in your bone marrow into your soul. Beautiful in its sorrow. Obviously when one person stopped humming another person would continue where the last left off, but there was one person that began it. I've always wondered what the song was composed for, a wedding or a funeral or something I have no idea that it could be.
