  1. If in fact there is an electromagnet beneath the Foucault pendulums, featured in just about every science museum across the globe, it is not the electromagnet that causes the observed periodic rotation. The rotation is caused by the net result of the inertia of the moving mass on the end of the capable and the earth rotating beneath it. If there is an electromagnet present, this certainly facilitates the continued motion and the consistency of the magnitude of the arc drawn by the tip of the pendulum. In absence of something like an electromagnet, it would be necessary for a museum aid to reset the pendulum due to energy loss from the system resulting in the spin down of the pendulum (the same phenomenon occurs when a grandfather clock is not regularly wound). Additionally, Pastor Dean misrepresents both the mechanics of the Michelson–Morley experiment and the consensually drawn conclusions concerning the meaning of the results (I'm not saying he does this out of malice; I don't know him or his heart), which is actually too bad because there is a real debate to be had concerning the meaning of the result. Somewhat ironically, it is a gigantic and hyper-sensitive version of the Michelson–Morley apparatus (LIGO) that was used to detect evidence of gravitational waves. The presence of those waves, ironically, suggests the presence of a gravitational-aether, which, as far as all corroborating evidence suggests, plots the path of light. So it turns out Michelson and Morley may have been right, but perhaps not in the way they envisioned (right for the wrong reasons), and that seems to be the case with much of scientific history. Now, the last thing I will say about the matter here is for those that ascribe to Adam's view on the Roman Catholic Church: if what he says is true (and I think it very well could be), then it adds special significance to the fact that both Galileo and Copernicus were tried for heresy by the Catholic Church for claiming that their experiments were best explained by daily rotation of the earth and yearly revolution about the sun. It was the Catholic Church that insisted everyone have a singular view of the universe and which is now precisely equivalent to the view many of you now espouse as necessary doctrine. As Adam has previously pointed out, one of the results of the diminished power of the Catholic Church is that science and technology were allowed to unfold, largely, without hinderance into the present. I would exhort everyone that they should not return to the bonds of the Catholic Church on account of skepticism and suspicion, well-earned as it is, of all authority; as it seems to me it is for this reason that many or most people in this school of thought adhere to a belief in a flat, non-rotating earth and much less so for what the Bible may seem to say on the matter.
