I'm not a pepper. I just enjoy being self sufficient and I know that things going wrong is matter of when and not if. Murphy's Law. I'm also a 6th generation Idahoan and a mechanical engineer. I can't wait to watch it all go down. I sure could use a vacation from this bullshit 3-ring circus side show. If the grid goes down I give most of you people 4 weeks.
Not just food
Not long ago, one of my grandsons asked, Pop, how do you know so much and how to build and fix things. I told him it was the norm when I was a kid for our dad's and grandfathers to teach us, and that is why I tried to include you in projects when I could. ( We lived several hundred miles apart sadly, so I didn't have much one on one time with him). When he got married I bought him a full tool set for Christmas. He looked so disappointed when he opened it. Heck I still get a thrill every time I get a new tool or gadget.
Growing up, my grandmother had a huge cabinet in her garage FILLED with canned goods and dry goods and a large freezer with a side of beef and other meats. One day, I asked why, and she said she lived through the great depression in Oklahoma, and they did without and were hungry and that she would never be in that situation again. I never forgot that.
I'm in my 60's and am thankful that I grew up in a time when people had common sense and good values.
Wild to see how completely correct he was 3 years back
