  1. CHP Sargents here in CA make $300 – 350k per year thanks to their union milking the taxpayers. Unions inherently breed mediocrity by their nature. We entrust the police with the power to deprive citizens of their rights. We entrust them to protect. Yet we get a mediocre service for our tax dollars. They lie and intimidate citizens, shoot unarmed citizens, put their lives above those they have sworn to protect, have qualified immunity, and committed an indefensible act in Uvalde Texas. And citizens are not supposed to be up in arms regarding terrible to mediocre service? Give me a break. I want better service for my paid tax dollars. Most of us don’t have unions and keep our job and advance in our careers based on merit, not tenure or seniority. It is too hard to get rid of bad cops because of their union protection and bad cops make all cops look bad. Cops are held to a lower standard, as employees, than the rest of us. If I make an honest mistake at work and cost the the company a few hundred thousand I’ll be fired, if they make an honest mistake and shoot an unarmed citizen nothing happens. They hide behind the difficulties of their job for sympathy, to dodge accountability and to quell transparency. I’m not buying it. Defund them (The Left) or bust their unions (The Right). I’d rather see the free-market (The Right) set the wages for their mediocre service. Only 6% of private sector employees are in unions vs. 42% in the local public sector. Like getting miked?

  2. Not defending this, because my dad was an obese cop, but, there has been a dearth of people willing to be cops for decades. If the powers that be can't find people willing to be on the force, they have to retain what they have as long as possible. And yes, like it or not, as cops age, they get bigger and less fit. But don't for a second think they can't still handle a gun. My dad, at least, was in the army; three tours between Korea and Vietnam. He learned his gun skills there, and he had to requalify every year while on the force. And he was GOOD. Instead of complaining about the 'defund the police' movement, maybe we need to focus on how to get more qualified and competent people on the force in the first place. Just throwing money at a situation is usually not the best solution.
